Best Double Strollers Buying Guide
There are two main types of double strollers: tandem and side-by-side. Tandem double strollers are narrower and allow two children to sit behind or in front of each other for more interaction. Double side-by-side strollers are more stable on wheels and allow parents to have better access to their children. However, they are broader and less suitable for public transport. The choice of either category depends on your use of the stroller and the composition of your family.
As part of this review, 5 of the most popular models on the market were selected. The functionalities of each are compared and an inventory of the pros and cons of each stroller has been made.
Four main criteria were assessed: Handling, representing the quality of road handling and maneuverability; Comfort, for the quality of the suspension and the comfort of the seat and handle; Quality, for the choice of materials; and finally, Overall Appreciation, for the ease of use and overall performance.
My top pick is the UPPAbaby Vista. I loved the UPPAbaby Cruz when I evaluated the standard strollers. The Vista charmed me even more with its multiple possible configurations. You can do almost anything with this stroller. This model is certainly not the cheapest, but quality comes at a price. It is the perfect double stroller if you want a travel system for your little twins. Imagine, you can carry up to 3 children in this stroller with the addition of a rolling step. You will certainly look great with this stroller and who said that a big family doesn’t go hand in hand with elegance?
For the best side-by-side double stroller, I recommend the Baby Jogger City Mini Double. Compact and comfortable for your little ones, it is offered at a good price. Although it does not have the same handling as the UPPAbaby Vista, it offers excellent value for money. You can also use it to carry twins, either directly in the stroller or in separately sold bassinet.
Some of the models shown are suitable for jogging, such as the Thule and the Bob. Never forget to consult your doctor before you get back to jogging after giving birth. My first choice for the double jogging stroller is the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double, with its handbrake, incredible handling and top quality.

Our Opinion on the UPPAbaby Vista
- Superior quality
- Easy to use and adapt
- High price
- Some less user-friendly configurations
Why We Love It
UPPAbaby’s impeccable quality still makes its mark with the Vista. It’s incredibly smart design makes it a versatile stroller that adapts to your family’s changing needs. The UPPAbaby Vista can carry a single child, twins, a baby and a toddler or even three children with the addition of a rolling step. It is the ideal stroller for growing families who want children one after the other. More than a dozen options are offered with its optional expandable system.
The UPPAbaby Vista comes standard with a seat for children from 3 months up to a maximum weight of 50 pounds. A bassinet is also included to carry your baby in a bassinet up to a maximum weight of 20 pounds. You can purchase separately the rumble infant seat for children from 6 months to 35 pounds (or 36 inches high) to be installed with the first seat included. A rolling step is also optional for an older child (maximum 55 pounds).
You can configure your UPPAbaby Vista as you see fit, depending on the nature of your family. You can install 2 bassinets, 2 infant car seats, 2 child seats, 1 bassinet and 1 child seat and more. The UPPAbaby Mesa infant car seat does not require an adapter. However, adapters are available for the Chicco, MaxiCosi and Nuna car seats.
However, some configurations are less ideal. The use of 2 bassinets at the same time is less user-friendly, considering the little space in height between the 2. You have to remove the sunshade from the rear bassinet to see the baby in the front. The same applies to the use of the bassinet with the child seat. This will make it more difficult to access the front bassinet. Too bad, because the baby often needs more attention than the older child.
Despite framing built from aluminum and magnesium alloy, this model is not the lightest on the market with a weight of nearly 26 pounds in solo mode and easily going to 32 pounds with 2 seats. This stroller is also not the most compact and still takes up a lot of space, even folded. It will therefore take up a lot of space in your car.
The installation of this stroller is easy since the instructions provided allow you to view each step of assembling the parts. It will take you a few minutes to get a fully functional stroller. For the many possible adjustments, look for the gray mechanisms. The opening and closing mechanism is easy to understand, but requires both hands. Also, the stroller stands upright when in the closed position.
The rubber wheels of the UPPAbaby Vista cannot deflate or puncture. They are equipped with shock absorbing suspension. The front wheels are locked with a press button and the brake mechanism is easy to engage behind the rear wheels with a color code to clearly distinguish its position. The UPPAbaby Vista is not a jogging stroller, but the handling is excellent, even on a less smooth surface. Driving, however, is a little more difficult with several children on board.
You can easily install the child seat facing forwards or backwards. More than 6 backrest recline adjustments are available, from very straight to virtually flat. The child seat is well padded and also equipped with an adjustable footrest. The 5-point harness adjusts easily to the child’s size. And what about the incredible sun visor, both for the child seat and the bassinet. Adjustable to the child’s height, it offers maximum coverage for optimal child comfort. A spy window with a silent magnetic closing mechanism is also included.
The handle is adjustable in 4 levels according to the size of the parent. It has a leather covering, identical to the one on the safety bar in front of the seat. All of the stroller fabrics are of incredible quality and are machine washable.
The storage under the seat is easily accessible and is definitely the largest of the models evaluated with a maximum capacity of 30 pounds! Small pockets were sewn into the basket to quickly locate the smallest objects. Also, a small pocket is located behind the child seat to hold a cell phone or wallet.
The bassinet ventilation system allows it to be used as a bed with the purchase of the stand sold separately. Don’t worry about the comfort of the mattress.
While the UPPAbaby Vista is expensive, it comes with several extras that are often missing from other stroller models, such as a rain cover and mosquito net for the carrycot and seat as well as a transport cover. Several other optional accessories are available, such as a cup holder and a snack tray.
There is so much to say about the UPPAbaby Vista! Its incredible versatility will allow you to easily adapt it to the evolution of your family. It is not surprising that UPPAbaby has several followers who act as true brand ambassadors. If your wallet allows you to do so and you want to quickly expand your family, don’t hesitate any longer, you won’t be disappointed.
Our Opinion on the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double
- Road holding
- Quality of materials
- Optimal storage
- Not suitable for newborn twins
- Less user-friendly with an infant seat
Why We Love It
Like the Baby Jogger and the Bob, the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double is a double side-by-side stroller. The Swedish company stands out in sports and outdoor articles. Besides, the Thule Urban Glide 2 was my choice for the best jogging stroller. The asking price for the double model is quite reasonable and is the best choice for any parent who wants a double stroller to get back in shape. In addition, what is interesting with this model is that you can use it just as much for your family outings. You will be impressed by the sturdiness and quality of this model.
With an acceptable weight of 32 pounds, the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double is slightly wider than the Baby Jogger and Bob (31.5 inches versus 29.75 inches and 30.5 inches). It has a maximum capacity of 100 pounds, or 50 pounds per child. A child can be installed directly in the seat only from 6 months. Children under 6 months of age must be in a fixed car seat. You can only install one car seat using an adapter sold separately and compatible with Chicco, Maxi-Cosi, Graco and Peg Perego models. This is not the best choice for installing twins from birth. Thule also sells a bassinet separately to carry the newborn baby in a pram. Be warned, however, that with an infant car seat or bassinet, this greatly reduces the space for the next child.
The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double is very easy to install and requires little intervention other than installing the wheels. These are large and have air-inflated rubber tires. The Thule stands out for its impeccable handling with a smoothness that is hard to match. The good suspension makes the stroller very comfortable to drive and sit in. The 360-degree swivel front wheel can be locked for better stability during the jogging. Also, reflective strips have been added on the wheels for added safety in the evening. A “Twist” handbrake is located on the handle to reduce the descent of a slope during jogging. The road brake mechanism is located between the two rear wheels and can be difficult to activate and deactivate with sandals.
The foam handle of the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double is adjustable using the pressure buttons on the sides. The ergonomics of the handle are excellent and will suit parents of all sizes.
The folding mechanism of the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double is the same as with the simple model. Simply activate the blue handle located under the footrest and the stroller will fold in half and be able to stay in the closed standing position. However, this is not the most compact double stroller model. Despite the fact that the wheels can be easily removed, this model will take up a lot of space in your rear trunk.
The coverage of the sun visor is average and does not offer the same protection as the UPPAbaby and the Baby Jogger. The sun visor covers the child’s face well, but hardly protects his legs. Each sun visor has a spy window with magnetic closure and ventilation pockets in case of extreme heat.
Each seat reclines easily and independently to avoid squabbles. Also, the belt buckle is soft and secure, so there’s no chance of your child escaping. The straps have much wider padding than what we are used to seeing on strollers. The 21-inch seat height will suit all children, including tall ones.
Although it has no adjustable footrest, it is well padded and has a plastic device at the bottom for easy washing. Moreover, the fabric of the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double is very easy to clean and maintain. In short, everything has been thought out for comfort.
The storage of the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double is great. The storage under the seat is wide and easy to access. The designers have even thought of adding a zipper to it so that the content is protected against bad weather and jumps. The manufacturer advises respecting the maximum capacity of 10 pounds of storage under the seat. Small mesh pockets are located on the side of each child seat for a bottle or snack. Two additional mesh pockets are located behind each seat for the parent’s needs. Several accessories are available as an extra, such as the cup holder, the snack tray and the rain cover.
The incredible design of the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the high quality of its design and manufacture make it the ideal double stroller for jogging. It is perfectly suited to the active lifestyle of parents. Driving it will charm you from the first moment.
Our Opinion on the Baby Jogger City Mini Double
- Side-by-side system
- Large sun visor
- Only one infant car seat possible
- Little storage space
- Non-adjustable handle
Why We Love It
The Baby Jogger City Mini GT was my choice for the best standard stroller. The Baby Jogger City Mini Double also does not disappoint for any parent who wants a side-by-side style double stroller. It is definitely an excellent double stroller for urban life with very good value for money.
The Baby Jogger City Mini Double is perfect for newborns up to a maximum weight of 100 pounds for both children. Double strollers are naturally wider, which may reduce access to some areas. However, for this type of stroller, the Baby Jogger City Mini Double is narrower than the average.
Please be advised that this model is not intended for families requiring a twin travel system, as it can only accommodate one car seat. Adapters are sold separately and are compatible with Baby Jogger, Chicco, Graco and Maxi-Cosi car seats. However, it is possible to transport 2 newborns in a pram in compact bassinets, which are also sold separately. Therefore, unless you want to buy 2 compact bassinets, the Baby Jogger City Mini Double does not seem to be the most suitable model for twins if you want to use it from birth. Note, however, that the seats are lowered almost flat to provide more comfort for the newborn.
It weighs 28.6 pounds which is decent for a double side-by-side stroller. The stroller is quite sturdy and reliable in the quality of its materials. Moreover, it is very easy to assemble. True to its reputation, its opening and closing mechanism is very easy to operate using two hands. The stroller is quite compact in the closed position for a double model.
The child seats are well padded to ensure the comfort of the children on board and reduce vibrations caused by different surfaces. The padding leaves no doubt about the quality of this stroller. In addition, the seat fabric is easy to wash and is of good quality. The seat reclines is almost flat, ideal for very young children or for a nap. You can also buy a removable support to make the seat more comfortable and adapted to the newborn’s morphology. The recline is easily adjusted to the desired degree using a cord located at the back of the seats. The 2 seats can have a different inclination. A 5-point harness also makes it possible to attach the child and easily adjust it to its size.
The seats of the Baby Jogger City Mini Double can only be installed forward. The stroller has no adjustable footrests, but there is a padded space at the bottom of the seat for older children to put their feet on. It’s not the most comfortable mode for naps, but better than nothing.
The front wheels of the Baby Jogger City Mini Double are plastic and lockable for more control. The wheels are quite small, which affects the smoothness of the ride, despite the good suspension. Side by side double strollers are often more difficult to maneuver and this is the case with the Baby Jogger City Mini Double, but driving will not give you too much trouble, however. It will just be a little harder to push on bumpy terrain. In particular, it’s the front wheels that cause more shaking, probably due to their size. Also, the braking mechanism of the wheels is horrible. The brake is fairly easy to engage, but when it’s time to remove it, the mechanism is less friendly, especially wearing sandals.
True to its other models, the Baby Jogger City Mini Double is equipped with a wide sun visor that will ensure your child’s comfort in sunny or bad weather. Two spy windows are attached to the sun visor of each seat. The handle of the Baby Jogger City Mini Double is covered with durable rubber and is not adjustable. The height between the handle and the ground is 41.5 inches, which is about average. If you want an adjustable telescopic handle, you’ll need to take a little more money out of your wallet with the Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double.
On the storage side, a small mesh storage pocket is located behind each seat to store wallet, mobile phone or keys. The storage basket under the seat is more difficult to access, especially when children sit in the seats because of the stroller frame that block access. A diaper bag will be difficult to get into and you will not be able to exceed the 10-pound capacity.
If you want to customize your Baby Jogger City Mini Double to your needs, it is possible with the many options available. You can easily get an optional cup holder, as well as a snack tray and a safety bar in front of the seat. You can even purchase an optional rolling footboard for the big brother or sister.
In conclusion, the Baby Jogger City Mini Double is an ordinary stroller that performs in the average range without standing out from its competitors unfortunately. Better quality wheels and an adjustable handle would make it more user-friendly for the asking price. The City Mini GT Double model offers more features, but comes with a higher price. The City Select model is also interesting for parents who want a tandem double stroller model.
Our Opinion on the Bob Revolution Flex Duallie
- Effortless driving
- Suspension performance
- Quality of materials
- Adapter with snack tray only
- More rigid footrest fabric
- Uncompact storage
Why We Love It
The California-based company Bob specializes in all-terrain jogging strollers and other outdoor products. It is recognized for its commitment to produce high-end products without compromising on quality. The Bob Revolution Flex Duallie is virtually the same stroller as the Bob Revolution Flex, but with an additional side-by-side seat.
At 33 pounds, the Bob Revolution Flex Duallie is the heaviest of the models reviewed despite its aluminum frame. Fortunately, this “heaviness” is quickly forgotten during jogging or a walk. The stroller is ready for use in no time, all without tools. The instruction manual is user-friendly and makes installation easy.
According to the manufacturer, you will be able to install your child directly in the Bob Revolution Flex Duallie as early as 8 weeks, but it is preferable to use the infant seat with the adapter for the comfort of a baby of this age. You will also have to wait for the approval of your pediatrician before running with your baby, which is normally from 8 months. You will only be able to install one car seat with an adapter. Therefore, if you are looking for a stroller with a travel system for twins, this model will not suit you. The adapters come with a snack tray for the next child. So, if you’re carrying an infant in the seat, be sure your older child will tolerate a snack tray in front of him or her at all times. In short, a major inconvenience for a stroller at this price.
Children on board must weigh no more than 50 pounds each. This model is less accommodating for taller children who may have their heads in the visor quite quickly with a maximum height of 44 inches.
Air-filled tires are made from polymers, which makes them extremely resistant to impact. The front wheel locks for better stability during jogging. The Bob Revolution Flex Duallie has an excellent suspension, probably the best of the models reviewed, and adjustable according to the weight of the children. There is no hand brake unlike the Thule, but the parking brake is much better with the Bob. In fact, the parking brake has been improved in the new version of the stroller. It is now wider and easier to operate. The handbrake is available with the Revolution Pro Duallie model. On the other hand, the stroller is equipped with a hand strap on the handle for extra safety on slopes.
Many parents are delighted to drive the Bob Revolution Flex Duallie. It turns with a simple push and is easy and effortless to drive, even with children on board. It’s truly amazing for a side-by-side style stroller. The wide front wheel has a stability that is difficult to match. There’s no chance that you’ll feel the stroller shake during the trip.
You can store the Bob Revolution Flex Duallie more compactly by folding it using the mechanism on each side of the handle. When folded, simply pull the red tab behind the benches to complete the operation. There is no automatic locking mechanism. If you wish to do so, simply use the red plastic buckle provided for this purpose. With a weight of 33 pounds, this stroller is more difficult to carry and will take up a lot of space in the trunk of your car, even when removing the wheels. It is therefore not a pleasant model to carry for parents with compact cars.
The seats recline independently at 70 degrees, but do not recline flat like other models. The 5-point harness adjusts very easily to your child’s size and the buckle can be easily released with one hand. Good padding covers the most important parts of the straps, the shoulders and the waist. The high-quality seat fabric is easy to wash. The seats are also well padded and are very comfortable for the little ones. The Bob Revolution Flex Duallie footrest is not adjustable. In addition, some parents have found the fabric of the footrest to be less soft than that found on the seat, which may irritate some children with sensitive skin.
The Bob Revolution Flex Duallie’s waterproof sunshade provides good coverage for children up to their knees. The sun visor in each seat has a velcro spy window. This is a little annoying, as the noise of the window opening can wake a sleeping baby. Also, the outer fabric of the sun visor has reflective strips for added safety in the dark.
The handle of the Bob Revolution Flex Duallie is non-telescopic, but adjustable using the snaps on each side of the handle. With its foam pad, the handle is very soft and pleasant to touch.
The storage of the Bob Revolution Duallie is really surprising. The mesh storage on the side of each seat is large enough to hold a cup or a small snack box. There’s also a pocket behind each seat, but it’s harder to access when the seat is reclined. Access to storage under the seat is easy. You can easily insert your diaper bag and other travel items. However, it would have been interesting if Bob had thought of removing the buckle strap between the 2 seats that separates access to this storage in two. The maximum weight for this storage is 10 pounds, like the majority of the models reviewed.
The Bob Revolution Flex Duallie offers a slightly lower quality than the Thule, but with a maneuverability that comes very close. Several accessories are available as an extra, such as the snack tray and the parent console to be installed on the handle. Like the simple model, Bob does not offer any cup holders for parents. In order to have a bottle on hand, you will need to purchase the console, or buy a cup holder from another compatible company.
In conclusion, it is a stroller for running and getting back into shape, but much less suitable for parents with an urban lifestyle who often take the bus. You won’t be disappointed with the performance of the Bob Revolution Flex Duallie. You’ll just have to get used to its heavy and imposing size. A little cheaper than the Thule, you definitely make a good choice with the Bob if your budget is a little tighter.
Our Opinion on the Chicco BravoFor2
- Good value for money
- Folding mechanism
- Sit/stand mode for older child
- Low front seat inclination
- Compatible with Chicco car seats only
- Shallow cup holders
Why We Love It
Look no further for the origin of the name of this stroller. We just want to say bravo to Chicco for this ingenious invention. The Chicco BravoFor2 is the same model as the Chicco Bravo, but with the “Sit and Stand” module. This module allows a second, older child (approx. 3-5 years) to climb on board the stroller in sitting or standing mode on a running board. The younger child sits safely in the front seat of the stroller or in the car seat.
This model can be interesting for the older brother or sister seeking autonomy who sometimes needs a little rest. At the age of 3 years and older, it can sometimes be difficult to keep a child seated in a stroller. The stand-up mode with handles for added safety may appeal to them as much as to their parent. Therefore, with the Chicco BravoFor2 you end up with a double stroller, but more compact and light than a double stroller in tandem or side by side.
Your toddler can be placed in the front seat from 6 months of age or in his car seat. Only Chicco infant car seats are compatible with the stroller. The seat is really easy to install, just fold the front seat down and you’re ready to go. Each seat has a maximum capacity of 40 pounds.
At 26.5 pounds, it is the lightest double stroller reviewed on this site. It is also one of the most compact in folded mode. The Chicco BravoFor2 draws its excellence from its incredible closing and opening mechanism, probably among the most remarkable on the market. With just one hand, you can easily close or open it with the non-slip handle located between the 2 seats. The wheels quickly snap together and the stroller can be held upright in the closed position. You can also easily carry it with the same handle.
With its swiveling front wheels, the Chicco BravoFor2 is easy to maneuver, but it is not an all-terrain stroller. Be well aware of this. For a double stroller in sit/stand mode, it’s fun to drive and you’ll have no trouble getting around obstacles on flat surfaces. The wheels are fairly sturdy and offer good stability. Whether it’s for a visit to the zoo, the mall or the park, it will take you to your destination with ease.
The inclination of the front seat is very limited, so it is recommended that you wait until your child is 6 months old before placing your child directly on the seat. With such a low recline, the comfort provided to the child is questionable, especially if the child falls asleep during transport. The seat is equipped with a 5-point harness for the youngest and a 3-point harness for the oldest. The front seat is well padded, but the material seems to be of lower quality than other models reviewed. Also, the seat of the oldest is not suitable for long walks. With a very small backrest and a seat without padding, your child may complain of discomfort.
The sun visor of the Chicco BravoFor2 is limited in its coverage. A taller child in the back will easily have their head in the sun visor which can be uncomfortable. Moreover, you can either optimize the coverage of the youngest child or partially cover both children.
The fixed handle 39 inches from the floor of the Chicco BravoFor2 is equipped with foam for increased parent comfort. The brakes are easily accessible at the bottom of the rear wheels. You won’t find it as easy to assemble the stroller as with the other models evaluated, but it won’t be much more difficult.
Under-seat storage is accessible from both front and rear of the mid-size seat. The stroller handle has a parent console with 2 cup holders and a small pocket for keys and phone. The older child who sits towards you, however, will likely be able to access this storage. Convenient for carrying a bottle of water, but less safe for mom and dad’s hot beverage. A big disadvantage is that the cup holders on the parent console are not deep enough to provide some stability for the beverage. Finally, the front seat for the youngest child has a snack tray included.
The Chicco BravoFor2 stands out for its surprising design, but has a shortcoming in terms of comfort. This stroller can easily do the trick for occasional outings, but is less suitable for long walks, especially during nap time. It is still very sturdy and offers good stability. Its price, quite small for a double model, it is reasonable for the quality it offers, especially since it includes all the accessories. It is generally very appreciated by parents.
