Best Umbrella Strollers Buying Guide
An umbrella stroller is an extra stroller. It is a must for unexpected outings, shopping at the mall and traveling. It takes up little space in the trunk of your car, is easy to carry and allows you to move your child safely. However, it is recommended to carry another stroller for longer trips to ensure greater comfort for both child and parent.
In my opinion, the 2 main properties to assess when choosing an umbrella stroller are its size and comfort. Indeed, parents often decide to buy an umbrella stroller to reduce the space usage of their stroller in the trunk of the car. They also buy it to easily transport their child with maximum comfort for them and their child.
As part of this review, 5 of the most popular models on the market were selected. The functionality of each is compared and an inventory of the pros and cons of each stroller has been made.
Four main criteria were assessed: Handling, representing the quality of road handling and maneuverability; Comfort, for carrying the stroller and the comfort of the seat and the handle; Quality, for the choice of materials; and finally, Overall Appreciation, for the ease of use and overall performance.
My top pick for the best umbrella stroller is the Summer Infant 3d Flip. We preferred it to its little sister, the 3D Lite for the additional features it offers at a highly justified price difference. The ability to flip the seat backwards, its wider sun cover and spy window has put it at the top of this review. The 3D Flip amply meets the expectations of an umbrella stroller. It’s reasonably priced for the quality it offers. You are definitely making a smart pick with the Summer Infant 3d Flip. If you are on a tighter budget, you may want to consider the 3d Lite, which is an interesting and functional product.
Always remember that an umbrella stroller is not an all-terrain stroller. It doesn’t offer the same comfort and handling as a standard stroller. However, it is expected to provide good maneuverability on smooth surfaces, such as at the mall or on a sidewalk.
The UPPAbaby G-LUXE offers the best comfort of the tested strollers. However, this comfort comes at a price that will raise eyebrows with many parents. Is it really worth the price? I consider that an umbrella stroller is only an extra stroller and that there is no justification for such a price for such a product.
If you don’t expect to use an umbrella stroller frequently, but still want to buy one, you can buy a stroller with a plastic frame, such as the Bily, which is offered at a highly affordable price.

Our Opinion on the Summer Infant 3d Flip
- Forward and backward orientation
- Large sun visor
- Spy window on the sun visor
- Difficult access to storage
- Opening and closing which requires 2 hands
- Cup holder not suitable for most reusable bottles
Why We Love It
Summer Infant is a formidable player in umbrella strollers. This is why 2 of his models are reviewed here and end up in the favorites.
The 3d Flip takes its name from its reversible seat allowing your child to look forward or towards you. This innovative feature makes it a distinctive and eye-catching stroller. Indeed, in no time and with one hand, you can switch the orientation of the front seat backwards. Backward orientation (towards the parent) is possible for a 6-month-old child up to a maximum weight of 25 pounds. A newborn insert is included for the child’s comfort and safety. Forward orientation is possible for a child with a maximum weight of 50 pounds.
The Flip 3d Umbrella Stroller weighs 14 pounds, which is reasonable with all its features. It can easily be transported using the strap on the side.
Opening and closing the 3d Flip stroller can be chaotic for some people. Of course, you will need both hands to perform the operation and some strength, as the stroller can offer resistance, especially when opening.
The 3d Flip has good handling. On difficult roads you can rely on the front wheel locks for better stability. However, the front wheels may shake on a less smooth surface. Fortunately, double wheels can provide more robustness and a quality feel.
The double foam padding of the handles is loved by parents. These are of a good height to fit well with most parents. The brake mechanism on the rear wheels, however, is not as practical when wearing sandals as it is on the 3d Lite.
The backrest can be tilted with one hand and 3 different levels of inclination are possible for each orientation. The buckle of the straps is protected by a cover for maximum safety and comfort. The sun visor has an amazing coverage, both forward and backward. It can also be moved to follow the evolution of the sun’s rays. The 3D Flip is the only stroller evaluated to have a spy window on its sun visor to monitor your child’s every move.
Like most umbrella strollers, storage under the seat is difficult to access, especially when the child is facing you. Unfortunately, the 3d Flip does not have a small pocket on the back of the seat like the 3d Lite. A simple pocket on each side of the seat to put your cell phone was thought of.
The cup holder is not surprising. It is difficult to hold in place and the majority of reusable water bottles are not compatible. However, it can be moved for use by the parent or child. If you are using it for children, do not forget to remove it before closing the stroller, otherwise you risk breaking it.
In conclusion, the Summer Infant 3d Flip represents the perfect marriage between a stroller and an umbrella stroller, thanks in particular to the possibility of turning the seat backwards. This is the right pick if you intend to use your umbrella stroller as soon as your child reaches the minimum age.
Our Opinion on the UPPAbaby G-LUXE
- Wheel quality
- Large sun visor
- High price
- Difficult access to storage
- Opening and closing requiring both hands
Why We Love It
If you are already familiar with the UPPAbaby brand, you are probably already convinced of the high quality behind the company’s products. The G-Luxe umbrella stroller makes no compromise on what you would expect from a stroller. Moreover, its features are very similar to those of a standard stroller with its comfort while having the lightness of an umbrella stroller.
With an aluminum frame, the G-Luxe is not the lightest of the models reviewed at 16.3 pounds, but still remains easily transportable. According to the manufacturer, the stroller can be used as early as 3 months of age and up to 55 pounds, ensuring a long life for your investment. The G-Luxe is very suitable for older children, so don’t worry about the durability of this purchase.
The front wheels of the G-Luxe are made of rubber and lock for better stability on rough terrain. Each wheel has a shock-absorbing suspension, which makes driving very pleasant for an umbrella stroller, even on a sandy road or on the grass.
The assembly instructions are easy and concise. Anyone can do it without a hassle and without a sigh.
The user-friendliness of opening and closing the G-Luxe decreases with the necessary use of both hands, but the stroller is still very easy to use. A few synchronization practice exercises will familiarize you with the UPPAbaby mechanism. If you already have a stroller from the company, the adaptation will be even easier and quicker. A carrying strap makes it easy to carry the G-Luxe on your shoulder. An element of distinction (the only one of the models evaluated) is the possibility of letting it stand upright closed, which is rare for an umbrella stroller. Practical when stopping on a terrace to quench your thirst.
The new rear wheel brake mechanism no longer requires lifting the tongue with the foot. Simply press the red lever to brake, then press the green lever to move forward. Interesting improvement for flip flop fans!
The backrest of the G-Luxe has a high-quality removable lining that is well padded for added comfort. Note that it is compatible with the washing machine, making it easy to clean. However, some parents have reported that the fabric does not clean easily, especially for big messes. The G-Luxe has other comfort options, such as an adjustable leg rest and backrest tilt for napping. The sun visor is really interesting since the extension goes down very low, effectively protecting your child from UV rays. However, the straps could have been a little longer to make wearing a coat more comfortable.
On the comfort side for the parent, the ergonomic handles are very comfortable, even if they are without padding.
The storage compartment is difficult to access, especially if a child is sitting in the stroller, although the new model of the stroller improves this aspect. A small pocket is located on the back of the backrest for additional storage at your fingertips.
The cup holder is included and is very sturdy compared to other models on the market.
In short, the UPPAbaby G-LUXE has an incredible design and interesting distinctive features. It’s a luxury stroller, and it looks great. Great quality that comes with a high price. Is it really worth the price? The answer lies in how you plan to use it. If you choose this model, be sure to use it frequently to avoid regretting your purchase.
Our Opinion on the Summer Infant 3d Lite
- Good value for money
- Friendly transport
- Good handling on smooth surface
- Sun visor cover
- Opening and closing requiring both hands
- Not suitable for large, strong children
Why We Love It
Summer Infant largely dominates the so-called lightweight umbrella strollers. The 3d Lite does not offer the quality and maneuverability of a quality standard stroller, but it offers better usability than a low-priced plastic stroller. It is offered at an honest price for what it has to offer.
The 3d Lite weighs just 12 pounds, making it the perfect umbrella stroller with an aluminum frame. When closed, it is very compact and will take up very little space in the trunk of your car. This stroller can be used as soon as baby holds his back and head upright at about 6 months of age until he weighs 50 pounds. However, a tall child will quickly touch the top of the sun visor. It has a carrying strap for easy transport. At 12 pounds, the 3d Lite can be carried over the shoulder over a long distance.
You’ll have no difficulty mounting the 3d Lite after you buy it. The instructions are clear and intuitive. Opening and closing the stroller is quite different. You will certainly need both hands to open and close it. Needless to say, you won’t be able to hold your baby in your arms while doing this. The opening in particular requires a certain amount of force and involves both hands and one foot.
The handling is excellent on smooth surfaces. Like any medium umbrella stroller, double wheels will have difficulty staying stable on bumpy or gravel surfaces. It’s not an all-terrain stroller, take it for granted.
The handle is comfortable and is padded with foam. It will appeal to both small and tall parents. The rear wheel brake mechanism, on the other hand, is not really user-friendly when wearing sandals.
The sun protection of the 3d Lite is not as optimal as with the 3d Flip and the mechanism for opening and closing the sun visor can sometimes hardly hold in place.
It is very easy to install your child in the 3d Lite with the straps. Several parents, however, mentioned difficulty in tying their stronger child. As with the 3D Flip, a pad hides the buckle and prevents the older child from playing with the mechanism. Safe! The footrest is not adjustable, like most umbrella strollers. However, it is possible to adjust the inclination of the backrest, but beware, use both hands, as the backrest descends quickly and may give your child a scare. The reclining in 3 different levels of the backrest allows the child to take a nap in peace.
Storage under the stroller is easy to access (when the seat is up) and a small pocket is located behind the seat for nearby items, such as a wallet and cell phone. The 3d Lite offers interesting storage size for an umbrella stroller.
The cup holder is easily removable. Fortunately, since the low quality of it is downright annoying and not really robust. In addition, its diameter is very small, which prevents several bottles from being compatible. Nevertheless, interestingly enough, it can be installed close to the parent or child. The 3d Lite does not come with a snack tray.
In short, the Summer Infant 3d Lite is an appropriate pick for shopping and outdoor outings. Your child will have optimal comfort for an umbrella stroller thanks to the many possible adjustments. Do not hesitate any longer!
Our Opinion on the Graco Travelite
- Ease of installation
- Friendly opening and closing
- Road handling
- Weight limited to 40 pounds
- Small carrying strap
- Sun visor cover
Why We Love It
Graco does not disappoint with its Travelite umbrella stroller. It was designed with impressive quality for its price. It leaves no doubt about its sturdiness.
Even though it has an aluminum frame, the Graco Travelite is not the lightest umbrella stroller on the market at 15 pounds. You can use it up to 40 pounds. This limit is disappointing for a stroller of this quality.
The Graco Travelite will be easy to install in no time! We also appreciate the opening or closing with one hand or one foot. It folds quickly and stores very compactly. You can do it all with your baby in your arms, since only one of your hands will be required. The stroller also has a storage latch to keep it folded.
The Graco Travelite has swivel front wheels with a suspension that lock for better road stability. The plastic wheels are quite small, but the handling is quite good. The maneuverability of the stroller is impressive, even in tougher conditions such as on the gravel.
The Graco Travelite’s locking mechanism is easily accessible and can be engaged with the foot. It’s wide enough to reach it easily, but you don’t risk hanging it while driving.
The carrying strap is less user-friendly than the 3d Lite, especially since the stroller weighs 3 pounds more which is a big disadvantage! You will not be able to carry it on your shoulder, only with your hand. Parents gain more comfort when pushing with the ergonomic padded handles.
The 5-point attachment can be transformed into a 3-point attachment when the child is older, like with the majority of umbrella strollers on the market.
The seat cushion is very comfortable and thicker than many other models. The backrest can be tilted into different positions. The leg support is also adjustable in several levels of inclination for optimal comfort. A cushioned protective bar in front of the child is easily removable and keeps your child safe while you shop.
The sun shield holds well in place, but it could be a little wider to provide more complete coverage.
The storage under the stroller is quite spacious, but difficult to access with a child seated. A cup holder is removable, but remains narrow and not suitable for the majority of cups on the market. However, a water bottle fits perfectly. No snack tray comes with the Graco Travelite.
It’s really too bad Graco limited the weight to 40 pounds with its Travelite stroller. An aluminum frame normally provides a certain amount of strength to support more weight than a plastic frame. Generally, Graco products grow well with the child; this one will be the exception.
Our Opinion on the Bily Parapluie
- Affordable price
- 3-point harness
- Low quality
- Short handles
Why We Love It
Bily is a company that specializes in baby articles at good prices. The Bily umbrella stroller is certainly the most economical option in this review. If your primary criterion is price, this model is for you.
This stroller is very minimalist, hence its very competitive price. At this price, don’t expect great extras. Manufacturing is of low quality and lacks robustness, which raises doubts about the durability of the product.
The Bily stroller is light and compact and is ideal for travel and outings. At approximately 9 pounds, it is by far the lightest of the strollers reviewed. This makes it easy to transport and takes up little storage space.
According to the manufacturer, the stroller can be used for a child between 6 and 36 months of age, weighing up to 40 pounds. There is little chance that the Bily umbrella stroller will grow with your child.
On the other hand, the Bily’s harness comes with 3 adjustable points. This means that there are no straps covering the child’s chest, which makes it questionable whether it is safe to put a child in it at a very young age. A lack of tone could easily tip over a young child. The Bily stroller should therefore only be used by a child who is able to sit unassisted.
Surprisingly for a plastic stroller, its front wheels are lockable for better stability. Nevertheless, driving remains fragile and impassable on surfaces like gravel and snow. Convenient for the mall, but nothing more.
The Bily umbrella stroller has independent rear brakes on each wheel. The seat back is not reclining like other more expensive models and has little cushioning. In short, this is a stroller that is not suitable for long walks for the sake of the child’s comfort.
The Bily sun visor is really not optimal and does not provide adequate protection from the sun. Coverage is only possible when the sun is above the child’s head. A better downward slope would allow for wider coverage.
The handles are padded with foam, but very thin and short. Parents who are tall enough will find it difficult to find comfort with this stroller.
Also, there is no storage possibility on this model. With its very light weight, do not risk hanging the straps of your diaper bag on the handles as this will cause it to tip over. Not ideal for long runs! As said above, at this price, do not expect extras!
This is a basic model of umbrella stroller. The Bily was designed to carry a child. Period. Definitely not for everyday use! If you intend to use it extensively, we recommend that you choose a model that is more comfortable for you and your child.
